Classmate Blog Critique
Over the course of this class, we’ve gotten to read a wide variety of blog posts covering all kinds of topics, and it’s been interesting to see how everyone approaches media analysis in their own way. Overall, everyone has done a really solid job, and there’s been a lot of creativity and effort put into each post. That being said, a couple of blogs caught my attention a little more because of how effectively they communicate their ideas. Savannah and James are two that I found especially strong, each for their own reasons.
Savannah’s blog really stands out because her personality comes through so clearly in her writing. Her posts reflect her interests in a way that feels engaging and enjoyable to read, and I like that she isn’t afraid to show more of herself in her work. One post I found especially interesting was her “Predictions” assignment. The level of detail she includes makes it obvious she has a real passion for the horror genre, which makes the post even more compelling.
Another thing that works really well in her blog is her use of visuals and links. The videos and photos she includes help bring her ideas to life and make it easier for readers to understand what she’s talking about, especially when the topics are more niche. I really liked her “Global Trends” assignment, where she incorporates video game and film trailers along with still images in a really seamless way. It adds to the overall experience of the post and makes her blog feel more engaging and easy to connect with as a reader.
In addition, James’ blog stands out to me for its strong, in-depth approach to each topic. What sticks out most is how clearly he explains his ideas while still going into detail. You can tell he takes the time to really understand what he’s writing about, which makes his posts feel well thought out and intentional. One post that I found particularly engaging was his "Product Review" assignment. I liked how he connected his own personal experience with the Meta AI glasses to his writing, which made the review feel more realistic and detailed for the reader.
Another thing I noticed consistently is how thorough his analysis is. Instead of staying at a surface level, he expands on his ideas in a way that helps readers better understand the subject. One post that I feel really highlighted this was his “Surveillance and Law Enforcement” assignment. Through the use of links and real-life examples, he gave the audience plenty of material to help support and visualize his points. Overall, his writing does a great job of making complex topics more understandable.
All in all, both Savannah and James do a really good job with their blogs, just in different ways. Savannah’s posts are more engaging and visual, which makes them fun and easy to read, while James focuses more on detail and explaining his ideas clearly. Even though their styles are different, they both show a strong understanding of the topics and put a lot of effort into their work. I really enjoyed reading everyone’s posts in this class and seeing the different ways people approached their writing and media analysis.
